CoenApproximately 576 km north of Cairns, Coen is a small town situated on the old telegraph line that ran from Laura to Bamaga. It is the most northern place for receiving mechanical repairs, petrol or supplies, apart from Weipa. Further north of Coen, the only habitation is a few telegraph stations - the road generally following the telegraph line.Coen also has an airstrip and a racecourse where picnic races are held each August. Accomodation facilities include camping grounds, hotel-motel, and a guest house. Although CAPE PCYC is not currently operating in this area, it is proposed that the CAPE PCYC model will be implemented in the near future.
